USING ESSENTIAL OIL DIFFUSERS TO REPLACE TOXIC AIR FRESHENERS

Protect Your Family from the Hidden Hazards in Air Fresheners
Phthalates (pronounced thal-ates)— hazardous chemicals known to cause hormonal abnormalities, birth defects, and reproductive problems-  were found in 86% of common air fresheners in an independent test study, including those advertised as “all natural” or “unscented”.

How shocking it is that banned phthalates can get slipped into products under the the innocuous labellings of added “fragrance” or “natural fragrance”, or even “unscented”?

Phthalates are not just found in air fresheners.  Toxic chemicals can be hidden in a myriad of home products that include cleaning agents, furniture, and clothing.

It’s really a lot to take in and I don’t want to overwhelm anyone, least of all myself, by all of the legal pollutants that we might unknowingly be exposing ourselves and our families to in our own homes.

We can support advocacy for change and further research, but in the meantime, start to make changes in your own home, where you have easiest access to control, to reduce the risk to your family of toxin exposure from phthalates.

Reevaluate how many toxic products are you still using in your home.  Check out recipes on this site and others of natural and effective cleaning products that you can easily make using basic essential oils.

If you haven’t done this already, throw away any plug in air fresheners and resist any temptation to purchase these items in the future.  I had already purchased an oil diffuser and I need to purchase a few more so that I can have one in every room.

Young Living Rose-shaped Home DiffuseThe cost of an essential oil diffuser will pay for itself over time. Not to mention the health benefits of using essential oils and the elimination of toxins disguised as “fragrance” in your home.

There are many fun and stylish home diffusers to choose from, don’t be fooled by toxic products, including some types of candles, that are being sold as “air fresheners” as they are anything but.

I really have to question why the aerosol and plug in commercial “air freshener” products are still legal and it’s my hope that eventually they will be banned.   In the meantime, we can all spread the word about their potential harm and vote against them by changing our consumer purchases.

Thanks to the availability of essential oils and diffusers, we are all one step closer to creating a healthier home and life for our families.
