The smell of peppermint has the effect of freshening the mind and, as a result, improving concentration. Sometimes all that is needed is a whiff from the bottle to clear up respiratory passages or elevate mood. For a fever, fatigue or tension in the back or neck, application of just a few drops to the back of the neck can bring immediate comfort. Just be careful not to overdue peppermint as the chill intensity can turn from soothing to uncomfortable if too much is applied at one time. The safest way to apply essential oils topically is to mix a few drops into a tablespoon of carrier oil. I like to use melted coconut oil.
